The Wagon

What to do when you fall off the wagon……

So, who doesn’t fall off their wagon occasionally? You’re going along, working really hard, making slow, but steady progress when – BAM, you take a day off…..then  2 days…….then a week……then two weeks.  There you have it, not just fallen off the wagon, but a fully fledged swan dive onto the pavement.

Now you’re lying there, on the cold cement, feeling pretty bummed out. You see others making progress and its hard not to be jealous.  So you get up, dust yourself off, and by god if someone didn’t steal your damn wagon – granted you gave them plenty of time while you sat wallowing in your own self pity…..just sayin.

Now you have to hire a guide and a tracker, two and a half weeks and a Fat Tuesday later, you hunt down your wagon, only to find it missing 3 wheels, it has a broken axel, and it’s back end is sagging…..pun intended.

This is the part where you pay your guide and tracker in shamrock shakes, and drag the damn wagon home. You put new wheels on it, fix the axel, and add a roll bar for emergencies and On Star…..just in case you lose it again. Oh and the sagging back end…..well my friend, only you can prevent forest fires, the sagging back end is gonna take some time and hard work.

Now let’s go ahead and bring the plane in for a landing. I hit the gym again tonight. Not as bad as I thought. Granted the skinny blond on the treadmill next to me, on her steady jog for 30 minutes, was getting me down a bit, but I remembered a post from my friend Missy, “Don’t let comparison steal your joy.”

Ya, I’d fallen off my wagon hard, but I remembered a post from my friend Jennifer, “There is nothing wrong with taking a break to enjoy family and life. It is your wagon, and it is right where you left it. Get back on and go!”

So here I go again. I’ll start with a new plan. I’ll keep working at it. I’ve got a great support team, from Connecticut to Florida to Iowa and back to Wisconsin. Though we don’t go to the gym together, we find a common ground of support on the Health Club page. We lift each other up, sometimes we even dust each other off, but we always encourage each other and share our stories. And this would be a lot harder to do on my own.

Let’s see if we can’t make this beat up ole wagon into a shiny race care………all it needs it a little “body work”.

As my Aunt Sue would always say…..Stay tuned.
